D.W. Fearn Music Channel

Want to learn more about our products? Or, if you already own D.W. Fearn products, do you want to learn how to get the most from your gear?

Doug Fearn has produced a series of video tutorials that cover the entire product line. These videos are designed to help you understand recording equipment, how it is designed, what to watch out for to avoid problems, and how to improve your recordings.

These are long videos, and some of the early ones are in multiple parts. If you are interested in learning more about the art and science of recording, these tutorials are for you.

Recording In Improvised Spaces (video added December 2013)

NEW! Building a Control Room
We build a new control room at D.W. Fearn. Watch the process from the design stage through the first session.

This is a multipart series than is different from the other videos. The goal is to share the knowledge that Doug Fearn has acquired in 50 years of professional recording.
The “Recording In Improvised Spaces” series focuses on the home studio, particularly for the recordist who has to make-do with space at home that is needed for other purposes as well as recording. It is illustrated with actual recording sessions from the D.W. Fearn shop.
Segments will  be added as they are completed.

Part 1 Overview

Part 2 Basic Acoustics

Part 3 Setting Up Your Session (added May 27, 2013)

Part 4 The Session (added July 8, 3013)

Music Video of “One Last Time”
This is a music video of one of the recording sessions used to illustrate the “Recording In Improvised Spaces” tutorial series. Most of it was shot as a separate session, with the musicians playing along with the finished mix, but we tried to duplicate the recording session as accurately as possible. There is no commentary on this one. It’s just the music video. But it shows many details of the recording session.
